But how do I do that? Is the question. Ok, what I’m going to say is if I can do it, then anyone can. I mean thus with every once of my soul!!! I was a born spender as much as I was a born grafter. My attitude was always, easy come easy go. If I went out and spent €500, even on a purchase I knew deep down that I would never use. It didn’t bother me

So your asking me why did it not bother me? Where you not upset? No I wasn’t. After much reflection I see why it never bothered me. It was because I’ve always been good at making money. I was also always good at getting rid of it as quickly as I made it!

There really are “savers” and “spenders”. I am a spender. I openly say this. People tell me all the time that they can’t change, they love shopping too much. Right! Get that out of our head as that’s bull!!! If I can change then so can you. The reality is people don’t want to change. They like spending money, and often money they don’t even have!!!

The truth is like a lot of things in life, change requires constant effort. You have to work at it, you have to push yourself forward. Even for me it’s a constant effort and that’s why I budget. It’s also why I always allow some fun money in my budget and some money for beauty. So I don’t feel completely deprived of having a life!

It’s difficult at first to change a habit of a lifetime. You need to discipline yourself to change from a spender to a saver. If you want to develop saving habits, you can! Life is full of choices and this is a choice you can make that will give you a far better lifestyle in the long run.

Once you start focusing on saving versus spending you will start to find it becomes contagious. Use charts like in “The Budget Book” to watch your savings go up. The same way it feels when you colour in a square to represent debt payoff, you can soon move this feeling to to your savings!

Just as a shopaholic derives pleasure from spending, you will get great pleasure from saving. Your future self will thank you for this new positive way of life!
