Ox Mountain

June the 1st 2024 and I am just home after a very interesting stay on a boat tucked away in the Sligo mountains. If you follow me on social media on my Irish Budgeting Mammy or Travel with Ann-Marie pages, you will know I started a Travel business in February 2023.  What this means for me is I have access to personal travel bookings at industry rates. Long story short, this has meant I can travel a LOT more for less. 2024 I set myself a goal of going on 12 trips in 12 months. My theme is quirky and unusual adventures and  https://oxmountainglamping.ie/ really was quirky and unusual!

We traveled across the country to the west of Ireland. As the roads became narrow and the hills higher we knew we were getting close to our destination. We arrived at 5.30pm  and we were greeting by Dermot the owner. Dermot is an extremely helpful and welcoming host. I would refer to Dermot as your personal travel planner at no extra cost! He sat with us in our home for the night, recommended local restaurants. Showed us maps of local walks and even planned our journey home by the Wild Atlantic way.

Our accommodation was the boat! Ox Mountain Glamping has several different  options for your stay. A Sheperds Hut, Mountain Lodge, Mountain Cottage, Mountain Treehouse, The Red bus which is an actual London bus, the Hideaway and The Moonlite Cruiser. We stayed in the Cruiser which is stationary on a lovely gentle river. I watched the sunrise and all I can say is it is an experience I will remember forever. Dermot filled me in on the history of the cruiser which like myself came from Longford and had a long life on the River Shannon before it was lovingly restored by Dermot and his wife Monica. Built in 1973, I am delighted it was 10 years older than myself!

Everything was well kept and tastefully decorated. Owners live on site so you have full support if you need anything. Ox Mountain have an onsite spa. Glamping residents can book private time in the spa hot tub which is filled with soft spring water from the Ox Mountains. Unfortunately I slept in far too long so I ran out of time to visit the spa but this shows how comfortable I was in the cruiser.  There is a surprising amount of local attractions on your door step. Lots of walks and hiking trails. The Ox Mountains scenic drive was amazing.

The only downside was I wished I had booked for two nights. This was a last minute trip and if I had spent more time researching activities I would have really enjoyed the hiking element. I would have loved to have spent Saturday doing the hiking trails then sitting outside with a glass of wine breathing in the mountain air.

Overall I highly recommend Ox Mountain Glamping. There is no phone reception or internet so you are guaranteed a peaceful time, well for me I had some redraw but I got over it!

Thank you https://oxmountainglamping.ie/ for the lovely experience!
