Replace the get Rich Quick Mindset with get Rich Slow
Everyone wants to ‘Get Rich Quick’ but I hate to bring bad news to you all but 99% of the time they do not work. Worse, you could end up severely out of pocket. Nobody likes to feel like a fool, least of all when you honestly felt you were going to grow financially, however this is often the outcome of these kind of plans. Someone else may be end up sitting pretty on your money.
In the fast paced world of instant food, instant shopping, instant tv, instant music, instant home cinema, instant credit, instant flights, instant messages and even instant dating (more if you are pushed)! The world seems to have gone mad on ‘instant’ and money is no exception. We want it all now, with minimal effort but more importantly zero time. “I want it and I want it now” attitude seems normal and I have questioned is this just a plague of the younger z generations. I myself an ‘older’ millennial and part of the millennials turning middle aged (hate this term) experienced instant society becoming our reality when I was in my later teens. Suddenly a new form of communication came into existence. A text message! The rest is history.
Am I immune to get rich quick ideas. No I am not, I considered pyramid schemes back in the day, was to afraid of potential loss and the man trying to sell it to me looked about as unconvinced of it as I was of what he was selling. Bitcoin was one instant I thought of for a long time and after much research I decided to do it slowly. Now hold on, it has not turned out not as positive as I had hoped but I did not lose 1000’s and held no emotional attachment to the money I invested in. I pondered on the very first bitcoin email I received, thinking really she made 32k at home, can’t be true and it wasn’t and I am so thankful I did not do it.
What I am saying is most millionaires got rich SLOWLY. Sorry to break your hearts but there are very few overnight millionaires. We all love a good rages to riches story, including myself but these people mostly worked their asses off over a long time. In a society where we are being showered with pictures of instant wealth and the next big sensation, most of these situations end up being news today, chip paper tomorrow kind of ones.
Of course there are exceptions to the rule, lottery winners, inheriting a company or inheriting a small country worth of money. Often however, these people still end up broke because they have no money management skills. The only path to long term millionaire lifestyle is a mix of financial knowledge and hard bloody work. No point is sugar coating it.
Many millionaires started with little or no money. Once they left school they started at the bottom, working in jobs in the lowest rank, learning, watching, observing, saving their money till they could start out on their own. What makes this reality is there was often no ‘fast track’ route to wealth. They earned it through hard work which often meant they held onto it. They made good AND bad financial choices but they took what they learnt from this and moved on. They didn’t live ‘it up large style’ but they did live well. Very frugal but within their means. Something that the modern society is struggling with.
The principle of money management become their own. They did not follow a set personal money management plan that you may read about on the internet but they created their own plan and what worked for them. This aided them to develop wealth, slowly but they got there in the end. Yes they may have had some lucky breaks but they still earned it. And it was secure wealth as they knew how to manage their money. I’m sure they more than likely enjoyed this journey as they did it their way. If the goal is just wealth, waking up one morning and thinking where is my life gone could also become a reality.
At a time where money seems to be the main focus in the news and amongst the people, I feel it is also important to remember there are more rewards in life than just money, so enjoy the road. Do what you love, find a budget system that works for you and relives the anxiety of our finances and money will often follow.
